Pilates Foundation code of ethics and code of conduct

Pilates Foundation teachers abide by a strict Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. This is a series of guidelines laid down by the Pilates Foundation, which ensures our members have the highest standard of practice and which protect members of the public. The guidelines ensure that all members must:
  • Hold relevant and valid qualifications issued by the Pilates Foundation, which must be renewed annually.
  • Only work within the scope of such qualifications and never teach in areas in which they are not formally trained and certified.
  • Continue to develop their knowledge and competence in Pilates through continuous education.
  • Hold appropriate and valid insurance cover.
  • Hold a current first aid certificate.
  • Give full attention to the comfort and safety of clients at all times.
  • Only give exercises that are suitable for the physical condition of the client.
  • Treat all information received from a client, or about a client from a practitioner, as confidential.
  • Handle all enquiries in a courteous and businesslike manner.
It is an overriding theme of the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct that a Pilates Foundation teacher is expected to act competently and with integrity while working. Our codes of practise are available to members of the Pilates Foundation on the Members' area of this website.
